New from HB Racing is the 1/8 scale GT Class RGT8-E electric race car. Already a winner on the track, a pre-production RGT8-E driven by HB team driver Rosario Giaimo took pole position and A-Main victory in the Electric GT 1/8 class at the 2018 European Championships. The RGT8-E builds on the proven characteristics of the RGT8 and adds the speed of electric power.
The RGT8-E has a fully adjustable battery mounting system that can handle a wide variety of battery configurations. When using Shorty packs, multiple mounting points allow you to easily shift the weight bias forward/backward to optimize the car's balance. The batteries are held in place securely and mounted directly to the frame for the lowest possible CG. A two-piece CNC-milled aluminum motor mount holds the motor securely in place and allows for motor changes without having to readjust the gear mesh. The RGT8-E features a robust 3mm aluminum chassis with raised side guards, similar to the successful D817 V8 1/8 buggy. The 7075 aircraft aluminum frame adds strength, lowers the center of gravity, dissipates engine heat and helps dampen high-frequency vibrations. Molded nylon side guards help protect rocks and debris. The drivetrain uses a proven 4WD system with high-strength steel center drive shafts, sintered diff gears, precision steel input gears and spur gears, and machined aluminum wheel hubs. To reduce the rotating weight of the transmission, the steel spur gear is lightened, as are the differentials and center inputs. The center bulkhead is split for quick and easy access to the center differential. Just remove 4 screws and the center diff slides straight away, a huge time saver when wrenching between heats. The RGT8-E suspension uses HB-branded monocoque suspension arms in a harder material as standard equipment, offering precise suspension and handling response. The monocoque design gives riders the advantage of being able to optimize arm stiffness based on track conditions. The suspension features large diameter threaded coilover shocks, front and rear sway bars, hinge pin inserts for easy insertion and anti-squat settings, fine tuning of rear camber link positions, multiple machined wheel blocks aluminum, steering blocks and rear uprights. The steering system features an alloy servo-saver arm, aluminum tie rods, steel turnbuckles and woven carbon graphite steering arms on the steering blocks. Alternate arm mounts, steering blocks, casters, steering arms, rear wheel carriers and sway bars are all available to tune the RGT8-E to any track or driving style.
